2000 Saylor Reunion
JULY 15, 2000
Learned Since Last Year
I'm too easily distracted when all the family names become interconnected. While distracted:
Mother and I found, Rachel Jane (PAUL) Saylor's family information in the Cambria County Library taking the family back to a Johannes Paul born about 1715. Rachel's mother's MOFFET family remains a mystery. (Her PAUL and RAGER connections make us related to everyone in Cambria County.)
Additional research into the FERNER/FARNER families found the parents of Mary CRONER, wife of Jacob FARNER, to be John CRONER. (We are related to everyone in Somerset County through the SAYLOR, LIVENGOOD, FOLK, BURKHART, CRONER and BERKEY'S.)
Spent a lot of time looking for more information on the family of Susanna BROWN with nothing to report this year. (I'm looking in Garret County, MD. Probably will be….)
While distracted with the MEYERS family [Meyersdale], I found this interesting fact in the History of Bedford and Somerset Counties, page 420 [emphasis added]:
In 1884 he [Jacob W. Peck] bought the fine farm near Meyersdale, known as the Abraham Saylor farm, and one of the highest priced farms in the neighborhood…. The farm contains one hundred and ninty-two acres, all under cultivation except twenty acres leased to the Meyersdale Fair Association.
While doing research to find a Mahlon SAYLOR (son of Jonas SAYLOR and Caroline BITTNER) who married Mary BURKHART, I found that Mahlon's brother Henry B. SAYLOR had a daughter Margaret R. SAYLOR. Margaret married Carl R. CLAPPER. Carl founded Clapper Building Supply.
My daughter, Debra, and my cousin Rachel's daughter, Marua, are both attending Penn State this summer.
