GROUP #3
Mathias Sailor/Saylor Lineage    <<- Click here for a 4 generation report

 Test # N13550

From various sources, this marker sequence traces it’s ancestry to a Mathias Sailor/Saylor and Magdelena Harry that lived in or near Hagestown, Maryland, between 1750 and 1795.  The best documentation I have for this family was compiled by Connie (Saylor) Shaw in a book titled Climbing the Family Tree.

Connie's research indicates that Mathias and Magdelena were active residents of Hagerstown. Mathias is listed as one of the founders of the Zion German Reformed Church in Hagerstown. "In 1774, the names of Mathias and his son, were placed in the cornerstone of the church."

Y-DNA testing of a family member with a good paper trail to Mathias is requested.
Climbing The Family Tree Ric Tobin, a descebdant of Mathias, has compiled an interesting document regarding some of Mathias's life events.

A pdf copy is availabe here for the famly.

Thanks, Ric.

However, the DNA sample tested here is that of a descendant that can only document his ancestry from Isaac C. Sailor, born about 1818 in PA; but; living in Wayne Co., IL, in the 1860 Census, married to Lucetta ?, born about 1821. They had 8 known children.

Theodore Seiler/Saylor Lineage
 Test # 81128
Ancestry contributed to the Project Administrator traces ancestry to Theodore Seiler with a son Friederick Sailor born 12 Mar 1701/02 in Binningen, Switzerland. One of Friederick's sons was named Matthias Sailor, born 16 Dec 1738 in Bottmingen, Switzerland and died 02 Sep 1826 in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland Co., PA. Thus, Mathias appears to be a recurring name in this Group. Matthias' brother, Jacob Sailor, born 17 Apr 1746 in Bottmingen, Switzerland and died 19 Jun 1816 in Buffalo Twp., Washington Co., PA., is the ancestor of 81128.

Canadian Branch of the Family
 Test # 100884

This test
comes from a male living in Ontario, Canada, who descends from a Samuel Saylor (b. about 1750) and who arrived, at age 8, in Burlington County, NJ from Germany. This result comes through his son Charles Saylor (b 1786, NJ) who, along with a sister, emigrated to Upper Canada about 1810.

 Test # 154198
This test is also from the Canadian branch of the family is a 12 of 12 match with Group 3. Test # 154198 is a 36 of 37 with Test # 100884 and a 35 of 37 with tests # 81128 and # 138625.

THIRD SAYLER/SAYLOR Family in early Somerset County, PA
 Test # 138625, 189299 and 235266 are a 37 of 37 match
(12 of 12 match to N13550, 36 of 37 match to 100884, 35 of 37 match to 81128
and now a 66 of 67 match with test 189299)

This test and the quality research of the paper trail is a surprise! The earliest ancestor of this family, as of this time, is found in the History of Bedford and Somerset Counties Pennsylvania, Volume III, by Blackburn, Welfley and Koontz, pages 82 - 84.  Before this test, I believed the ancestor George Michael Saylor belonged in DNA Group 4. Not so, because of ANOTHER  George Michael Sayler.

Test # 170052
results were released late March 2011. While the results show a count difference of 2 at DSY# 447. The Genetic Distance of 2 or 3 with other members of Group 3 indicates a related status.

A match of 12 of 12 markers indicates a likelihood of 50% that the individuals share a common ancestor within 7 generations or a 95% likelihood within 29 generations.

A match of 37 of 37 markers indicates a likelihood of 50% that the individuals share a common ancestor within 2 generations or a 95% likelihood within 7 generations.
